Module breakdown

Module 1: Preparing for Client Practice

This module is about helping you prepare for working therapeutically with clients and ensuring you feel supported and understand the journey ahead. We'll also look at ruling clients in and out of our work, and what it means to be working within your scope of practice.

Module 2: Trauma & Client Safety

Before starting to work therapeutically with clients, some of whom may well have experienced trauma, it is important to have some more understanding of the causes of trauma and how it manifests. This builds upon the teaching on trauma in Level 2.

We include advice about cultivating a sense of safety for clients and why it's so important to ensure they learn how to ground themselves and self-soothe, and how to deal with times when they get triggered.

We also include an account written by one of our experienced practitioners about an appointment they say 'went wrong', which they then reflected on. It turned out to be a wonderful learning opportunity, not only for the practitioner, but for everyone on this course too!

Module 3: Self-Soothing Resources

When starting to work with clients, it's helpful to teach them one or two basic resourcing strategies before doing any significant emotional work. This is the foundation which creates a sense of safety in order for them to feel secure enough to begin exploring what might be emotive issues for them.

Psychotherapist, SIRPA Practitioner, Supervisor and SIRPA Board Member, Carole Randell, has kindly recorded some videos demonstrating a couple of resourcing practises, as well as various ways to teach clients to self-soothe. All of these help clients learn to acknowledge and express emotions as they learn to self-regulate.

All the videos are recorded for you to experientially follow and learn so you can then teach your clients.  You may prefer some exercises more than others, but by experiencing them all, you will be able to find one or more that most resonate with each your clients.

Module 4: Client Assessment

This module is all about assessing clients for mindbody conditions. You will get to grips with our pre-assessment forms and have the opportunity to watch two assessment sessions with real clients who agreed to have their assessments recorded and shared in this way.

Module 5: Working with Clients

At this stage we are ready to look deeper into the practicalities of working with clients. What happens during a session? How do we support our clients throughout the course of their journey? What do we do if they have a flare-up of symptoms? Which techniques are appropriate to apply in different situations?

We will cover all of this and more, so that you have a clear idea of how to apply the concepts and tools to each client in a way that responds to their unique needs.

Module 6: Resources

We have put together a library of all the strategies and worksheets included throughout Levels 1 - 3, so it is easy to find what you need when you are working with clients.

Module 7: Integrating this Approach

Here we look at ways to integrate this approach into your own work. We discuss options such as online/offline working, whether to offer discovery calls, ways to explain the mindbody approach to clients, and how to look after your own wellbeing and prevent burnout.

Module 8: Working as a SIRPA Practitioner

In this module we share experiences of a few of our SIRPA Practitioners. Some of our experienced practitioners from a range of professions have recorded short videos of their own experiences of integrating the SIRPA approach into their own work.

Everyone's journey is unique and it's about finding what works for you, whether that's working with clients 1-on-1, group work, corporate work, working online or offline, developing online programmes, teaching or even undertaking research.  We hope you find these helpful and inspiring.

Module 9: Your ongoing development

In this penultimate module of SIRPA's practitioner course, we have included some additional material with the aim of  helping you make the most of what SIRPA can offer, as well as easing your ongoing journey as you integrate the SIRPA approach into your own work.

This includes a list of recommended resources which you can dip into if you ever need to explore a particular issue in more depth during your work with clients.

Module 10: Final Assignment

It's time to put all that you have learned into practice! The final assignment involves writing what you would do in response to three different scenarios with clients, which will be assessed.

Once this is complete you are ready for your case studies. You are required to complete 5 case studies with real clients, and write a case study review form for each. You will also need to complete 5 supervision sessions with a SIRPA clinical supervisor (not included within the course price), and complete a wellbeing action plan for yourself.

Once this work has been approved, you are officially qualified as a SIRPA Practitioner and are ready to take this work into the world!
