Module Breakdown

Module 1: More Evidence for Change

As we start Level 2 we focus on building on the evidence that reinforces the reasons why we need to challenge the biomechanical understanding of musculoskeletal conditions. We also explain why we need to consider other factors if we are aiming for resolution of neuroplastic pain/symptoms, rather than pain management, for example.

Module 2: Consolidating Knowledge - Stress

In this module we look further into the role of stress, as well as what are known as 'ultimate concerns of existence', when considering mindbody conditions. Here we provide a broader understanding of what constitutes as 'stress' and how it may manifest, plus how we can apply what we are learning in a clinical setting with our clients.

Module 3: Consolidating Knowledge - Pain

In this module we review further information about pain science and the brain. This includes a more in-depth understanding of neuroplasticity and epigenetics, as well as considering some of the work of leading pain scientists. We also include here the neuroscience of trauma and how predictive processing results in the re-experiencing of traumatic events. The more we learn how and why things like this happens, the more we can understand how we can help clients reverse these responses.

Module 4: Trauma

Module 4 will help you gain a clearer understanding of trauma and how it impacts mindbody conditions. Following this we provide some of the evidence that demonstrates how trauma responses can be mitigated in order for people to be able to move on.

At the SIRPA-informed level of the SIRPA CPD courses, this information is for your understanding, so that you can recognise how trauma might reveal itself as you work with clients and refer them on. You will not be covered at this stage to use this information therapeutically with clients.

Module 5: Who can we help?

It is important that we know how to identify mindbody conditions by ruling out other health problems and knowing when to refer people on. We will also look in this module at how to 'rule in' a mindbody condition, and the main ways that mindbody conditions can manifest.

Module 6: SIRPA Principles in Practice

In this module we provide a wealth of strategies which you can use in educating and guiding clients who present with PPD/mindbody conditions.

Module 7: SIRPA-Informed Working

In this module we aim to help you gain a good understanding of your scope of practice when working with clients who present with PPD/mindbody conditions, working as a SIRPA-Informed professional. We also include suggestions about explaining this concept to others, offer advice about helping clients who present with constant, severe pain, plus we provide you with a flowchart to offer guidance re. a recommended care pathways for clients.

Module 8: Examples of SIRPA-Informed Working

The aim of this module is to help you consider how you might be able to integrate what you have been learning on these SIRPA CPD courses. To help with this we have included some tips given by some of our SIRPA-trained practitioners, plus some videos recorded by a few of them.

Module 9: Resources to Share

In this module we are including the main strategies you have learned so far and which you can recommend to your clients. As a SIRPA-Informed practitioner, you may share these links and resources.   Education and simple strategies are the mainstay of this approach and many people recover from this alone.
